Wood - Woodworking by "Walt's Creations"
I like the challenge of transforming rough sawmill lumber into well cherished, functional objects that can be enjoyed by oneself as well as generations to come.
Hello, my name is Walter E. French. As a woodworker, I like the challenge of transforming rough sawmill lumber into well cherished, functional objects that can be enjoyed by oneself as well as generations to come. I am a self-taught woodworker with an artistic and musical background. I work independently in my workshop that overlooks a five-acre lake nestled in the hills of Central Kentucky where I have lived my entire life.
I start with a rough, sawed lumber of cherry, poplar, maple and sometimes exotic woods. I then saw and plane and cut the pieces that I desire to craft. I continue to work with the pieces of wood by hand until I achieve a satisfied excellence that I want to produce. I then sand and apply a hand rubbed tung oil finish.
The process is the same for all crafts that I create such as musical istruments, handsaw walking canes, and wood jewelry. I am a juried memebr of the Louisville Artisans Guild and the Kentucky Guild of Artists and Craftsman in Berea, Kentucky. My instruments have won at the Kentucky State Fair. My work can be found in various places throughout Kentucky.
